Real Time and Space (RTS) is a work-only artist studio space with seventeen permanent artist members and an artist residency program located in a former print shop in Oakland, California. RTS seeks to facilitate the exchange of ideas within and beyond the Bay Area artist community through our residency program.

This open call is for our 2025-2026 residency program. There are 2 residency tracks.
Track 1: Local artists (residing in the San Francisco Bay Area*) will be awarded a 3 month residency with a $4000 stipend.
Track 2: Out of town artists will be awarded a 1 month residency, a $2000 stipend, and a $2000 travel stipend.
*Bay Area includes the following nine California counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma.
Note you can only apply to one track, NOT both tracks.
Our residency includes a 170 sq. ft studio, access to a large common space, and use of our communal woodshop. RTS is conveniently located in Oakland's Chinatown one block away from Lake Merritt BART station. It is just a short distance from downtown Oakland and a two minute walk from the Oakland Museum.
Requirements for the residency:
- Work on-site at the studio for a minimum of 15 hrs per week
- Give an artist talk during the residency period
- Create an artwork in the form of a multiple (edition of 10) for the RTS Residency archive
Note: No hazardous or toxic materials may be used in the studio space. We have no kiln on site.

We do not accept artists currently enrolled in a degree program.
Deadline for applications is April 24, 2025.
